About AIMPA
AIMPA works to promote and protect the high-quality, cost-efficient care furnished in the independent medical practice setting.
The American Independent Medical Practice Association is a physician-led national advocacy organization representing almost 600 independent medical practices that provide quality, affordable health care for more than 24 million patients each year.
These independent practices are critical access points for health care across the country — at more than 4,200 medical office locations and over 575 independent ambulatory surgery centers in 44 states and the District of Columbia.
We advocate on behalf of more than 10,000 physicians caring for patients in the fields of Primary Care and Internal Medicine as well as the specialties of Cardiology, Dermatology, Emergency Medicine, Gastroenterology, Hematology/Medical Oncology, Nephrology, Neurosurgery, Ophthalmology, Orthopedic Surgery, Otolaryngology, Radiation Oncology, Urology, Vascular Medicine, and Women’s Health.
What We Do
We are the voice of independent medicine.
AIMPA’s data-backed advocacy efforts seek to inform patients, physicians, and policymakers about the value that independent medical practices provide to the healthcare system.
Our work includes:
- Advocating for legislation and regulation that empowers independent medical practices to thrive even in the midst of unprecedented consolidation among hospitals and payers.
- Educating the public about how partnerships between independent medical practices and management services organizations (MSOs) can reduce costs, expand access to care, and provide better service to patients while maintaining the crucial patient-doctor relationship.
- Sharing original data that illustrates how independent medical practices, including those that partner with MSOs, deliver high-quality care in a cost-effective manner.
- Partnering with leaders from all medical specialties who care for patients in the independent practice setting, as well as allied patient advocacy groups, to shape health policy.
